Norrie beats Buse to reach Canadian Open last 32

Cameron Norrie is through to the last 32 of the Canadian Open after a straight-sets win over Ignacio Buse. The British number two, who sits four places below Buse in the world rankings, triumphed 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 29 minutes on the Montreal hard courts.

Norrie built on a confidence-boosting run at the Los Cabos Open, where he ended a six-match losing streak by reaching the semi-finals last week. He then defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli in his opening match in Montreal to set up the meeting with Buse.

The Peruvian, ranked 33rd, struggled to find his rhythm early. Norrie broke serve in the opening game and comfortably served out the first set. Buse raised his level in the second set, earning his first break to level at 2-2, but Norrie immediately responded with a break back. The Brit then saved three break points in the next game to maintain his lead. Buse received a medical timeout but could not alter the momentum, and Norrie sealed the match on his second match point.

In the next round, Norrie will face Australia's world number seven Alex de Minaur. De Minaur, who married Katie Boulter in July, is also set to team up with the British number two in mixed doubles at the upcoming US Open.
