Norris: "McLaren" has not yet reached its full potential
Formula 1 driver Lando Norris says McLaren has not yet fully unlocked its car's potential, though he remains confident the team can turn things around.
British driver Lando Norris has said in an interview that McLaren still does not feel it has fully understood this season's car, even though the team continues to see strong potential in it.
Norris pointed to time as the team's biggest challenge at the moment, stressing the need to introduce upcoming upgrades as quickly as possible. He noted that even before the team's latest upgrade package arrived, McLaren had already achieved some solid results, and the newest upgrades subsequently helped secure victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Comparison with last season
Assessing the team's overall performance this year, Norris acknowledged that neither the team nor the car is currently at the level he would like, or at the level reached last season. Still, he said some good results show the team is moving in the right direction, even though there is more work to do to reach where it wants to be.
Norris also praised his cooperation with teammate Oscar Piastri, saying the two drivers often share very similar feedback on technical matters, which helps them work together toward the shared goal of returning McLaren to fighting for wins every race weekend.
In the current world championship standings, Norris sits fifth, 91 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli, while his teammate Piastri is seventh.
