Norris Takes Hungary Pole by 0.012s Ahead of Hamilton

Lando Norris of McLaren claimed his first grand prix pole position of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, beating Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton by a mere 0.012 seconds on his final lap.

Hamilton had set the fastest time on the opening runs, leading Norris by just over a tenth of a second, but neither the seven-time champion nor his teammate Charles Leclerc could improve on their subsequent attempts.

Norris's last-gasp lap proved decisive, snatching pole in a chaotic finish to the session caused by a spin from Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the final corner. The four-time champion's error forced Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell to slow down, ending the session in fourth and seventh places respectively.

Verstappen managed to recover before Norris came around as the last driver on track to clinch pole in the upgraded McLaren.
