Norris signs new McLaren deal through 2030

Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has signed a new contract extension with McLaren that will keep him with the team until at least the end of 2030. The deal was announced on Saturday.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Norris said he did not even consider offers from other teams, despite acknowledging there had been some outside interest. He said he simply did not want to leave McLaren or work with different people, describing the decision as one of the easiest of his F1 career.

Norris was under no pressure to decide quickly, since his existing contract still had more than a year left to run. He said discussions about extending his stay had been happening loosely in the background for around the last four months.

A long-standing partnership

Norris made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2019. The team struggled for competitiveness in his early years before turning things around after Andrea Stella was promoted to team principal at the end of 2022. Since then, McLaren has won back-to-back constructors' championships in 2024 and 2025, ending a title drought dating back to 1998, while Norris claimed the drivers' championship last year.

The 26-year-old said his loyalty stems from the strong relationships within the team, including with chief executive Zak Brown and Stella, as well as the shared history of hardship and success.

McLaren has started this season slower than in 2024 and 2025 while adapting to new F1 regulations. Norris said this difficult start only strengthened his desire to remain with the team, adding that he enjoys fighting through tough moments with the same people he has worked with throughout his career.
