A massive homecoming celebration took place in Oslo on Monday evening for the Norwegian national football team, returning from a historic World Cup campaign. The squad, which achieved its best ever result in the tournament by finishing fifth, was welcomed as heroes.

Approximately 88,000 fans lined the streets to cheer on the players, who returned to the World Cup after a 28-year absence and progressed to the quarterfinals. There, they lost 1-2 to England, but the achievement exceeded all expectations.

The festivities were held in front of the Royal Palace in Oslo, where Crown Prince Haakon led the crowd in the Viking clap, a tradition started by Norwegian supporters. Afterwards, the team paraded through the city streets.

However, not all stars stayed for the entire celebration. Forward Erling Haaland and midfielder Sander Berge flew in with the team but only briefly attended the start of the event before leaving for a vacation in Sicily. The head coach explained that the team's flight was delayed by several hours, preventing the two players from participating further.

Captain Martin Ødegaard expressed astonishment at the reception: "I don't think anyone could have imagined something like this. The support we received in the US and from home has been enormous and exceeded all expectations."

The World Cup continues with four teams vying for the trophy: Spain, France, Argentina, and England. The tournament will conclude on July 19.
