Norwegian tourism agency responds with humour to Trump's insults
Norway's tourism agency Visit Norway has posted a humorous message about its toilets in response to remarks about the country by US President Donald Trump. Trump's comments caused little stir in Norway itself.
The Norwegian tourism agency Visit Norway has used disparaging remarks by US President Donald Trump about the country to showcase the beauty of its toilets. The report comes from the Ukrainian outlet European Pravda, citing the AFP news agency.
What came before
At a rally, Trump expressed irritation that he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize. In that speech he called Norway a "shithole country" and added that he does not want migrants from the Scandinavian nation.
The agency's reply
Visit Norway posted a message saying it had heard some fuss about a "shithole country" and that Norway does indeed have some of the most spectacular toilets in the world. It was signed "With love, Visit Norway". The post included a photo of a single toilet standing at the foot of a hill overlooking a fjord.
Reaction in Norway
Overall, Trump's comments did not resonate significantly in Norway. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded by stressing that the government plays no role in awarding the Nobel Peace Prize.
