Ten diesel cars sold in Europe named with consumption under 5 litres per 100 km
A roundup lists ten diesel-engined cars offered on the European market with very low fuel consumption, with one model reaching 0.9 litres per 100 km. The figures are manufacturer-declared and may be higher in real driving.

Drivers in Europe who care about low fuel use can still find diesel cars with declared consumption below five litres per 100 kilometres. Slashgear.com published a roundup of ten such models, which Latvijas Avīze reported on 7 November.
Diesel engines have become less popular in Europe in recent years, but they keep a following among those who want to save fuel. According to the roundup, carmakers have over the years produced several models whose economy is surprising even today.
What the roundup covers
The list includes ten cars that have been offered on the European market. Some can still be bought new, while others can be found on the used-car market. A few models use around three litres of diesel per 100 kilometres, and one special model reached 0.9 litres.
Why the figures should not be taken literally
The numbers are manufacturer-declared results, not guaranteed consumption in everyday driving. They were obtained in different tests and with different methodologies, so in real traffic consumption may be higher.
Some of the older models were tested under the NEDC methodology, while figures for newer ones come from WLTP. Certain record-low results were achieved under specially controlled conditions.
