Every summer, people lose their lives in water bodies, often due to overlooking simple safety measures. An accident can happen in a matter of seconds, making it crucial to understand the risks and be prepared to respond.

First, never overestimate your abilities. Even experienced swimmers can struggle in strong currents or cold water. Second, keep an eye on each other – when swimming in a group, regularly check that everyone is safe. Third, never jump into water from piers, rocks, or railings, as such jumps can cause serious injuries or make it difficult to get out.

If an accident does occur, provide first aid to the drowning person immediately and call emergency services. First aid may include rescue breathing and chest compressions if the victim is not breathing. The key is not to waste time – the sooner help is given, the higher the chance of saving a life.

Remember: water can be dangerous, but by following simple rules and knowing how to act, you can help prevent a tragedy.
