Nothing Unveils Headphone (1) Pro With Triple-Driver Sound System

Nothing presented its newest headphone model, the Headphone (1) Pro, at an evening event in New York City on Monday. The design closely follows the company's original over-ear headphones released last summer, with refinements to fit and build.

Three drivers per ear

The main upgrade is sound architecture: instead of a single dynamic driver per earcup, each ear now gets three separate drivers. A 40-mm driver handles bass, a precision driver covers midrange sounds like vocals, pianos and guitars, and a third driver using xMEMS technology with a silicon diaphragm renders treble and sharp transients, such as cymbal hits, with more clarity. This layered design is visible through 9H Panda glass panels set into the sides of the headphones, which are otherwise built from aluminum with titanium accents. Nothing says the glass passed durability tests involving 18 drops from over a meter and is resistant to shattering and scratches; even if cracked, an internal plastic film keeps the chamber functional, and repair technicians can heat the glass to remove and replace it.

Studio-focused features

The Pro model is 2 grams lighter than the original Headphone (1), with a wider headband and thicker padding, though battery life drops to 68 hours with noise cancellation off, compared with 80 hours previously. It carries an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance. Working with Metropolis Studio, a professional recording facility, Nothing built in a flat EQ mode triggered by a physical button, along with additional custom EQ profiles such as concert hall and club settings, plus a spatial audio mode simulating Metropolis' mixing room. A 3.5-mm jack is included alongside wireless and USB-C options. The company also claims its best-ever active noise cancellation, using 10 microphones. The Headphone (1) Pro costs $399 and will be available from September 29 through Nothing's online store, Amazon, and Best Buy locations across North America.
