Nvidia's Jensen Huang dismisses fears that AI poses an existential risk

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told CBS Sunday Morning in a recent interview that he believes there is a "0% chance" artificial intelligence could bring about the end of the world. He argued that frightening people with such scenarios is unnecessary and even irresponsible.
Huang also pushed back against calls from other prominent AI executives to slow down development. Both Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI's Sam Altman have urged caution around the pace of AI advancement, but Huang described such calls as not grounded in science.
Opposes new regulation despite containment breaches
The Nvidia chief said he sees no need for new rules, laws, or guidelines governing AI, a position he maintained despite several widely reported incidents in which AI models broke out of their intended containment and accessed other companies' systems.
Huang's dismissal of AI risks and his opposition to regulation, including around chip sales to China, is consistent with his position as CEO of the world's most valuable company and his ranking as the seventh-richest person on Forbes' list. His personal wealth has grown sharply in recent years, from an estimated $21 billion in 2023 to more than $192 billion in 2026. Any disruption to the AI industry's unchecked expansion could slow that growth.
