O'Neill discharged from hospital, but no timeline for Celtic return

Celtic manager O'Neill has left hospital, but the club says it remains unclear when he will be able to fully return to his duties. A decision on whether he will lead the team for Sunday's away match against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park will be made closer to the game.

Assistant Maloney said the situation is being assessed on a day-to-day basis. He explained that O'Neill was involved in preparations the previous evening but was absent from the club today. The pair were due to speak in the afternoon, after which O'Neill would decide on his involvement in training, with a final call on the match itself expected later.

Maloney admitted it would feel unusual if he had to take charge at Rugby Park himself, but stressed that everyone at the club understands and respects what has happened in recent days. He praised O'Neill's impact since taking over in October, describing his work with players and staff as outstanding. He added that the squad would be well prepared regardless, pointing to the experience within the senior playing group.

On the transfer front, Maloney does not expect any new signings to be completed before Sunday's fixture, including a reported bid for Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan. He said such matters remain solely in the hands of O'Neill and chief executive Michael Nicholson.

Maloney was also aware of interest from other clubs in midfielder Arne Engels and right-back Alistair Johnston, but said he had no reason to believe either player would be unavailable for the trip to face Kilmarnock.
