In a recent EU-Startups podcast episode, Patrick Ryan, co-founder of Odin, discussed the path that took him from consumer goods and corporate venture capital to building a platform reshaping how investment firms operate.

Odin is often described as "Shopify for Venture Capital." The platform allows anyone, anywhere, to launch and run a private investment firm online, covering legal structuring, investor onboarding, KYC/AML compliance, payments, and reporting.

During the conversation, Ryan explained what inspired him to create Odin and outlined the inefficiencies he had identified within traditional investment systems, which he described as unnecessarily complex and ripe for disruption. The platform is positioned as a way to empower a new generation of fund managers, angel syndicates, and founders looking to invest in companies.

"VC in your pocket"

Ryan elaborated on what Odin's "VC in your pocket" concept means in practice and described the platform's diverse target audience, ranging from first-time fund managers to seasoned angel syndicates.

The discussion also touched on the cultural and ideological differences between investing in the US and in Europe, as well as how Odin's recent expansion addresses key friction points faced by investors operating globally.

Ryan noted that nearly €1 billion in European VC vehicle announcements have already been disclosed in 2026, and explained Odin's role within this evolving ecosystem, highlighting the platform's potential to let more people participate in shaping the future through capital allocation.
