Mosquito bite itching unbearable? Here's what experts recommend
Experts explain that the itching from mosquito bites is an immune response and recommend using cold compresses to reduce swelling and itch, while stressing that scratching only worsens the sensation.

Why does itching occur?
When a mosquito bites, its saliva enters the skin, triggering the immune system to release histamine. This substance causes redness, swelling, and intense itching, according to dermatologists.
First aid – cold
To quickly relieve discomfort, specialists advise applying a cold compress, ice pack, or a cool, damp towel to the bite. Cold constricts blood vessels, reduces blood flow to the area, and helps decrease both swelling and itching. Just a few minutes are enough.
Why you shouldn't scratch?
Although scratching provides temporary relief, in the long run it makes the situation worse. Scratching stimulates further histamine release, making the itching even more intense. Therefore, dermatologists strongly advise against scratching, no matter how hard it is to resist.
