Doctors at the Ophthalmology Clinic of Riga East Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) in Latvia are urging people to undergo retinal examinations and to pay attention to changes in the retina, the light-sensitive inner layer of the eye that makes vision possible.

According to the doctors, a key concern is that retinal changes do not always cause pronounced complaints at the outset. A person may not notice any obvious problems even though changes have already developed. For that reason, specialists say people should not wait for symptoms to appear, but should have examinations so that the condition of the retina can be assessed in good time.

The ophthalmologists' appeal is aimed at encouraging a more attentive approach to eye health and regular check-ups.
