Staged robbery uncovered in Ogre: police reveal embezzlement cover-up
Latvian State Police have uncovered that a reported robbery in Ogre in June was staged to cover up the embezzlement of 5,810 euros from a company.

Officers from the Riga Regional Police Department's Pierīga East Precinct have uncovered a staged robbery that was orchestrated to conceal the embezzlement of company funds.
On June 7 this year, police received a report that an unknown person had attacked a young woman on Rīgas Street in Ogre and stolen her handbag. The bag contained the victim's personal belongings, 47 euros in cash, and 5,810 euros belonging to a company, which was to be deposited into the company's bank account that same day. Initially, criminal proceedings were initiated for robbery.
During the investigation, police arrested a man born in 1999. Further inquiry revealed that the robbery had not actually occurred and was pre-planned. It turned out that a woman born in 1996 had already embezzled the 5,810 euros belonging to the company. To cover up this crime, she decided to stage a robbery.
The woman contacted an acquaintance born in 1991, who agreed to help and found another person – a man born in 1999 – who agreed to participate in the staging for a fee of 200 euros. Pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
