Marking Ukraine's Independence Day and expressing solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom, pedestrian bridges in the city of Ogre are being illuminated today in blue and yellow — the colors of the Ukrainian flag, symbolizing clear skies over a wheat field.

Long-standing partnership with Ukrainian municipalities

Ogre Municipality has established partnership ties with several municipalities in Ukraine. Its longest-running cooperation is with Chernihiv, with which a memorandum on cooperation in trade, economy, culture, education, healthcare, youth policy and sport was signed back in 2007.

Support since 2015

Ogre Municipality has been supporting Ukraine since 2015. Following Russia's full-scale invasion launched on 24 February 2022, the municipal leadership, together with residents, businesses, institutions and associations, has continuously organized aid shipments to the war-torn country, including delivering vehicles badly needed under wartime conditions.

Visit by partner delegations

During this weekend's Ogre municipality and city celebrations, delegations from the partner municipalities of Chernihiv and Ternopil visited Ogre. The guests took part in the festivities, met with municipal leadership and viewed infrastructure projects completed recently.
