A first-instance hearing opened on Wednesday at Zemgale District Court in a criminal case against a woman suspected of killing her partner, Latvian broadcaster TV3's program "Degpunktā" reported.
The case stems from an incident last November, when emergency medical services were called to an apartment on Bērzu Alley in Ogre. There, responders found a 55-year-old man dead, with multiple stab wounds on his body.
Following the discovery, the deceased man's common-law wife was detained as a suspect in the case. Nearly a year later, the case has reached the first-instance court, where proceedings began this week.
People who knew the victim described him in the broadcast as a bright, good and kind-hearted person.
Further details about the course of the trial and a possible motive have not yet been made public.
