Ogre United and Daugavpils aim to extend winning streaks in Virslīga Round 23
Ogre United, bottom of the table with 13 points, have won three of their last four league matches after a three-month wait for their first victory. Visitors BFC Daugavpils, fifth with 27 points, have lost only once in their last six games. The match takes place on July 19 in Ogre, live on TV4 and Sportacentrs.com.
This weekend the Latvian Virslīga continues with round 23, featuring an intriguing clash between "Ogre United" and "BFC Daugavpils" in Ogre. Both teams head into the match with two consecutive wins, making it a battle to see which streak continues.
"Ogre United", in their debut season in the top flight, sit last in the ten-team league with 13 points from 22 games. They endured a difficult start, waiting over three months for their first league win, but have since turned things around with three victories in the last month. Most recently, they beat "Super Nova" in the league and overcame "Valmiera" in extra time in the Latvian Cup round of 16.
"BFC Daugavpils" occupy fifth place with 27 points. The Latgale side have impressed in the summer, losing only once in their last six league matches – a 1-3 defeat to RFS on June 30. In that period, they also took points off champions "Riga". Their last two games were wins: a league victory over Liepāja and a cup win on penalties against "Riga Mariners".
This season, Daugavpils have won both previous encounters: 2-1 on April 7 and 3-1 on May 21. The match on July 19 kicks off at 17:00 in Ogre Stadium and will be broadcast live on TV4 and Sportacentrs.com.
