Residents Weigh In on Reasons for Student Exam Failures

OgreNet asked residents to share their thoughts on why some students fail centralized exams. Respondents pointed to several factors, including teacher engagement, student attitude, and parental oversight.

Dace, who works in the beauty industry, believes that a key problem is teachers' inability to effectively convey knowledge. According to her, her son needed private tutoring from the 6th grade due to low class averages, and he passed the exam with a 7 thanks to extra help. Kristīne, a confectioner, noted that a child's ability and willingness to learn are important, but the teacher's explanation style also matters. She added that her son struggled with learning and had to repeat several years, but with teacher support he completed basic education. She believes some teachers explain material simply while others make it too complicated.

Student Didzis, who will be in 9th grade next fall, thinks that many students fail because of stress, but he remains confident due to good teachers. He also cited a lack of motivation among peers and suggested that parents should be stricter. Pēteris, a retiree, argued that today's students are lazy and spend too much time online. He recalled that in his own school days, students were more diligent and studied six days a week. He criticized the current system, where students study remotely or attend only a few days a week.
