Police warn Ogre region about fraudsters and grave robbers
Several fraud cases, a damaged Tet cable, and stolen granite grave borders have been reported in Ogre region over the past week.
The police have received reports of multiple incidents in the Ogre region. Between July 23 and 29, a person was defrauded of 4,250 euros on Mālkalnes prospekts in Ogre. On July 29, another resident of the region visited what appeared to be the website of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate to pay a fine, used a banking app, and subsequently had 2,500 euros removed from their account.
Law enforcement urges people to carefully verify that a website truly belongs to the company or institution they intend to pay before entering any bank account access data. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in both fraud cases.
On August 3, a Tet cable was damaged during construction work on Jāņa Čakstes prospekts in Ogre. An administrative process has been launched.
On August 4, in Ķegums on Meža iela, it was discovered that new polished granite curbs had been stolen from 15 grave sites, along with a one-meter-long threshold. The material damage to the victims is estimated at 3,500 euros. A criminal case has also been opened.
