Home Guard soldiers assist victims of serious crash in Ogre municipality

Two teams from the State Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) responded to a serious traffic accident in Ogre municipality on Saturday, according to NMPD Communications Department head Ilze Bukša. Two injured people were taken to hospital for further treatment.

The crash occurred on the Tīnūži-Koknese road. Soldiers from the Home Guard's 54th Combat Support Battalion Bridge-Layers Company happened to be nearby at the time, having stopped at a temporary traffic light set up due to road repair works while returning to their base in Ogre after training on the Daugava river.

Soldiers provide first aid

At that moment, in the opposite lane just before the repair section, a severe collision occurred when a truck crashed into several cars waiting at the traffic light. The soldiers immediately went to help the injured, called the NMPD, assessed the victims' condition and divided tasks among themselves to carry out rescue efforts.

Battalion representatives said the soldiers administered first aid using the knowledge and skills gained through their military service, and monitored the injured people's condition until medics arrived. Meanwhile, the remaining soldiers cordoned off the accident site and stopped traffic in both directions to ensure a safe environment for providing assistance.

The Home Guard emphasized that the soldiers' swift and coordinated actions were important in caring for the injured until emergency services reached the scene.
