OHL returns to Daugavpils, but hosts fall 0:3 to Kyiv Capitals
In the first OHL game held in Daugavpils since spring 2023, the local ″Rīga Hockey School″/″Dinaburga″ team lost 0:3 to Ukraine's ″Capitals″ club in front of their own fans.

On Friday, September 11, the Daugavpils ice arena hosted an Optibet Hockey League (OHL) match for the first time since the spring of 2023. Local side ″Rīga Hockey School″/″Dinaburga″ suffered a 0:3 defeat to Kyiv's ″Capitals″ in front of their home crowd.
How the game unfolded
The visitors opened the scoring midway through the first period, when Ilya Korenchuk converted on a power play. Kyiv's club also outshot the hosts in the opening frame, 13:7.
In the second period, again around the midway point, Gatis Sprukts extended the lead after Kevins Strādnieks broke through the home defense individually and set up the goal. Late in the period both sides took penalties and traded power-play chances, but neither converted — Daugavpils even enjoyed a lengthy 5-on-3 advantage, yet goalkeeper Konrāds Melders held firm.
With five minutes left in the third period, Deivids Sarkanis netted the third goal, pouncing on a rebound in front of an empty net to make it 3:0.
What's next
Capitals finished with the edge in shots, 14:43. Daugavpils will play its second home game the following day, September 12, against ″Mogo″/RSU. In the current OHL standings, Daugavpils sits near the bottom with one point after several games, while Kyiv Capitals and Mogo/RSU rank among the leaders.
