OHL leaders Mogo/RSU sign veteran forward Ronalds Ķēniņš, 11-time world championship player

Mogo/RSU, coached by Ģirts Ankipāns and the champions of the Optibet Hockey League for the past three seasons, has signed 35-year-old forward Ronalds Ķēniņš, whose most recent club was Finland's HPK.

After five games, Mogo/RSU leads the Baltic championship standings with nine points, three points ahead of its closest rivals, Kyiv Capitals.

International experience

Ķēniņš has represented Latvia at 11 world championships and two Olympic tournaments. In total he has played 142 games for the Latvian national team, scoring 17 goals and adding 33 assists. During his career he also played 38 games in the National Hockey League for the Vancouver Canucks.

Most of his career was spent in the Swiss National League, where he won the national championship three times with Zurich's Lions. Since 2018 he had belonged to Swiss club Lausanne, which in recent seasons repeatedly loaned him out — both to a second-tier Swiss club and, last season, to Finland's HPK, where he managed only two games despite two assists.

On Saturday, Mogo/RSU will face Liepāja's team in Riga. In today's only match, Zemgale will travel to Vilnius to play Hockey Punks.
