Oklahoma City Thunder trade champion Aaron Wiggins to Atlanta Hawks
The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded forward Aaron Wiggins, a key contributor to their 2025 NBA championship run, to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for two second-round draft picks. The move significantly reduces the Thunder's luxury tax penalty.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have decided to part ways with forward Aaron Wiggins, sending the 2025 NBA champion to the Atlanta Hawks. In return, the Thunder received two future second-round picks — one in 2030 and one in 2032.
Wiggins is under contract for three more seasons (the last is a team option) on a five-year, $45 million deal. According to ESPN, the trade will reduce the Thunder's anticipated luxury tax penalty from $213 million to $152 million.
Wiggins was drafted with the 55th pick in 2021 and spent his entire career with the Thunder. In the 2025 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers (4-3), he appeared in all seven games, averaging 5.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.
This season, Wiggins started 21 of his 65 games, posting averages of 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 21.8 minutes per game. In the playoffs, he played in 13 of 15 games off the bench, averaging just 5.8 minutes and 1.5 points per contest.
The Thunder finished the regular season with a 64-18 record, first in the Western Conference. They swept the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers in the first two playoff rounds (4-0 each) but lost to the San Antonio Spurs 3-4 in the conference finals.
The Hawks, who went 46-36 and placed sixth in the Eastern Conference, lost to the eventual champion New York Knicks 2-4 in the first round. Atlanta also recently extended veteran CJ McCollum's contract for one year worth $21 million.
