German outlet "Bild" reports that around 32,000 illegally filmed videos of women at Munich's Oktoberfest are circulating on social media. The footage was taken at the "Teufelsrad" attraction, with some clips secretly filming women under their skirts without their knowledge.
Paid accounts gain large followings
Some accounts distributing these videos offer paid subscriptions and have amassed more than 100,000 followers. The outlet notes this practice is known as "upskirting" — secretly filming under a skirt or dress without the woman's consent. Modern smartphones are small and easy enough to use that offenders often go unnoticed.
Meta responds, but not always in time
Meta told the outlet that such videos violate the platform's rules and are removed once the company becomes aware of them. However, many clips that users have already reported remain accessible online.
In Germany, producing or distributing such recordings can result in a fine or imprisonment of up to two years. This year's Oktoberfest in Munich began on Saturday.
