Olga and Astrīda Lead This Week's Name Day List in Latvia
Olga is the most common name among those marking name days in Latvia this week, followed by Astrīda. Official statistics also reveal several extremely rare names on the calendar, such as Dzelde and Brencis.

Name days in Latvia this week bring together common and uncommon names, with Olga standing out as the most widespread. According to statistics from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs' Population Register, among the personal names marked on this week's calendar, Olga is the most popular, with 15,442 people bearing it.
Other frequently occurring names are significantly less common: Astrīda appears for 1,505 celebrants, Elvīra for 1,184, Zenta for 1,061 and Velga for 1,046. These figures show that older traditional names still maintain a presence in Latvia's naming landscape, even though their numbers are far below the leader.
The statistics also reveal some exceptionally rare calendar names for this week. Only three people in Latvia are named Dzelde, five are named Brencis, nine are named Virma and seventeen are named Audra. Slightly more common are Zigita at 22, Zelda at 32, Audris at 50, Liega at 60 and Inuta at 65. These uncommon names share the calendar with the much more frequent Olga and Astrīda.
In addition, 881 people named Zita, 833 named Rēzija, 811 named Astra, 727 named Vizma, 290 named Zelma, 201 named Klāra and 149 named Zemgis celebrate their name day this week. The week's name-day list thus spans from very widespread to nearly forgotten names, giving all bearers a reason to mark their day.
