Olympic long jump champion Davis-Woodhall to skip rest of season

27-year-old athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall has announced she will not take part in any further competitions this season. The decision comes just days before the season-closing "Ultimate Championship," which is set to feature Diamond League leaders as well as world and Olympic champions.

Writing on social media, the athlete said the decision was painful and left her disappointed, but expressed confidence that it must be part of a larger purpose and that she would not question the path laid out for her. Davis-Woodhall said she intends to return, describing the situation as a temporary setback.

Cause — a car accident

Nearly two weeks ago, the athlete was involved in a car accident while driving to training. At the time, she said the injuries she sustained were not life-threatening, but she did not resume training afterward, which ultimately led to her decision to end the season early.

Career achievements

Davis-Woodhall won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and, a year later, also claimed the world championship title, cementing her status as one of the strongest long jumpers in the world.

The "Ultimate Championship" will take place this weekend in Budapest, Hungary. Latvian javelin thrower Anete Sietiņa is also expected to compete in the event.
