OpenAI, the US company behind the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot, has published an analysis of the religion-related questions users put to the service. According to the data, ChatGPT receives roughly 70 million questions and requests about religion every week. The analysis covers the period from September 2025 to September 2026.
Which religions draw the most interest
Users ask most often about Islam, which accounts for about 45 percent of all such requests. Questions about Christianity make up 34 percent. Hinduism accounts for four percent, Judaism for two percent, and Buddhism for one percent.
Seasonal variations
The number of questions shifted with religious holidays. Queries about Islam rose during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, while questions about Christianity were asked more often around Easter.
What people want to know
About 22 million requests a week related to studying and interpreting religious texts. Another 16 million concerned religious customs, holidays and rituals.
Among questions about Christianity, almost half involved Bible passages. A further 13 percent dealt with church services, sermon preparation and other aspects of church life.
The analysis offers a picture of how people use artificial intelligence tools to learn about faith-related topics and for everyday religious practice.
