Operetta Theatre to premiere new production “Paris Bohemia” on October 1
The Operetta Theatre's new production “Paris Bohemia” premieres on October 1 at the “Ziemeļblāzma” Culture Palace, followed by a tour across Latvia. The show is based on motifs from Imre Kálmán's operetta “The Violet of Montmartre,” reimagined with a jazz sound.
On October 1, the “Ziemeļblāzma” Culture Palace will host the premiere of the Operetta Theatre's new production “Paris Bohemia.” Directed by Sonora Vaice, this eco-fashion operetta draws on motifs from Imre Kálmán's operetta “The Violet of Montmartre” and tells the story of young artists within Paris's bohemian society — people who love, create, dream, compete, and seek success.
Lead roles
The central character, Raoul, a passionate young bohemian caught in a love triangle and torn by his own feelings, is played by tenor Dainis Skutelis. Anta Jankovska portrays Ninon, an ambitious and alluring woman drawn to Paris's glittering life, while Jolanta Strikaite plays Violetta, a seemingly fragile young woman whose feelings for Raoul prove genuine and selfless. Other roles feature Nauris Indzeris and Mārtiņš Gūtmanis, as well as Juris Jope and Aivars Krancmanis. The cast also includes actors Varis Piņķis and Zigurds Neimanis, with the theatre's choir and dancers rounding out the bohemian ensemble.
Visual and musical concept
Costume designer Elīna Milta-Niedrāja created looks blending high-fashion aesthetics with forms and textures inspired by nature and insects. The score's new jazz-infused arrangement was crafted by pianist Madars Kalniņš, based on a concept by creative director Agija Ozoliņa-Kozlovska. Musical direction and conducting are led by Atvars Lakstīgala, with some performances conducted by Artūrs Plaudis.
After its Riga premiere, “Paris Bohemia” will tour to Cēsis, Liepāja, Ventspils, Slampe, Ulbroka, and other locations across Latvia. Tickets are available through “Biļešu paradīze” box offices.
