Opposition puts forward two no-confidence motions against government ministers in Saeima

At tomorrow's Saeima sitting, lawmakers are set to consider two opposition-initiated proposals to declare no confidence in individual ministers of the government led by Andris Kulbergs (AS).

The party "Latvia First" (LPV) has submitted a motion demanding the resignation of Health Minister Hosams Abu Meris (JV). Meanwhile, the "Progressives" party is pushing for a no-confidence vote against Minister of Education and Science Ilze Indriksone (NA).

Two motions on one agenda

Both items have been placed on the agenda of the same Saeima sitting, reflecting heightened tension between the ruling coalition and opposition parties. For a no-confidence motion to succeed and force a minister to leave office, it must be backed by a majority of Saeima deputies.

What happens next

The two motions will be examined separately, with an independent vote held on each. It is not yet known how the parliamentary factions will vote or whether the ruling coalition will be able to secure enough support to keep both Abu Meris and Indriksone in their posts.

The development shows that opposition parties continue to focus scrutiny on the government's work in the health and education sectors, using the parliamentary oversight tools available to them in the Saeima.
