Latvian Sprinter Oskars Grava Wins 200m in Sweden

Latvian sprinter Oskars Grava won the 200 meters at the Grand Prix Karlstad in Sweden, while other Latvian athletes also competed in Finland.

Latvian athlete Oskars Grava delivered an impressive performance at the Grand Prix Karlstad in Sweden on Wednesday, July 8, winning the 200-meter sprint. Grava finished the distance in 20.78 seconds.

Earlier, he also competed in the 100 meters, placing fifth in his "A" heat with a time of 10.65 seconds. The event was won by local favorite Henrik Larsson (10.43 seconds).

Meanwhile, at the Grand Prix Joensuu in Finland, Latvian triple jumper Rūta Kate Lasmane finished fourth with a best jump of 13.44 meters achieved on her first attempt. Her other jumps: 13.32 m (second), 13.10 m (fifth), and 13.35 m (sixth), while two attempts were invalid. The winner was Greek athlete Oksana Koreneva with 13.80 meters.

In the 3000 meters, Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds recorded his second-best time ever in the distance — 7 minutes and 54.04 seconds — securing sixth place among 19 competitors. His personal best remains the Latvian record of 7:49.48 set indoors in Seattle in winter 2025. The race in Joensuu was won by Kenya's Daniel Munguti (7:49.04).
