Welsh regional side Ospreys have announced the signing of former Australia wing Marika Koroibete.

Before committing to the move, Koroibete said he spoke with head coach Mark Jones, who was clear about what he expects from him both on and off the pitch. Koroibete noted that the squad contains several young, high-potential players and said he would take pride in helping them progress to the next level.

Career background

Koroibete was first spotted playing in Fiji by NRL scouts and played rugby league for Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm before switching codes to union in 2016. Since making his Australia debut in 2017, he has scored 20 tries in 63 Test appearances, featuring at both the 2019 and 2023 World Cups. His move to Ospreys will make him eligible to represent Fiji ahead of next year's tournament in Australia.

Fourth Australian recruit

Koroibete becomes the fourth Australian player to join Ospreys, following lock Ryan Smith, who impressed during the 2025-26 season. Head coach Jones has also previously brought in former Wallabies captain Liam Wright, centre Lalakai Foketi, who has nine international caps, and versatile back Lawson Creighton.

Jones said the signing reflected well on the club's ability to attract overseas talent of Koroibete's calibre and expressed confidence it would excite supporters. He added that Koroibete's experience should have a positive, lasting effect on the development of the squad's younger players.

Ospreys will play a friendly against Coventry on 4 September before opening their United Rugby Championship campaign away to Sharks on 26 September.
