Ostapenko reaches Wimbledon mixed doubles final with Arevalo

Latvian tennis player Aļona Ostapenko and Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo secured a spot in the Wimbledon mixed doubles final on Tuesday, July 7. The second-seeded pair defeated the third seeds – American Christian Harrison and China's Zhang Shuai, a former doubles partner of Ostapenko – in the semifinals with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

The decisive moment in the first set came in the eighth game, where Ostapenko and Arévalo broke serve to love. In the second set, the only break occurred in the 12th game when the Latvian-Salvadoran duo faced three set points, conceding on the second. In the third set, Ostapenko/Arévalo converted a break point in the seventh game, and despite missing two consecutive match points in the tenth game, they sealed the victory on the third.

The winners hit more aces (16 to 9) but also more double faults (6 to 2). They converted three of six break points, while their opponents managed two out of 12. Overall, Ostapenko and Arévalo won 100 of 195 points.

In the final, they will face Australian pair Mark Polmans and Storm Hunter. Ostapenko previously reached the Wimbledon mixed doubles final in 2019 with Sweden's Robert Lindstedt. This year, Ostapenko reached the third round in singles and the second round in women's doubles.
