Ostapenko and Kenin Fall in Wimbledon Doubles Second Round

Latvia's Aļona Ostapenko and her American partner Sofia Kenin suffered a defeat in the second round of the Wimbledon doubles championships, losing to the Czech-Russian pair of Anastasia Dețiuc and Irina Khromacheva.

Aļona Ostapenko of Latvia and Sofia Kenin of the United States faced a disappointing loss on Saturday in the second round of the Wimbledon doubles tournament. The eighth-seeded duo was defeated 6-3, 5-7, 4-6 by Anastasia Dețiuc (representing the Czech Republic) and Irina Khromacheva (Russia).

In the decisive third set, Ostapenko and Kenin had four break points in the tenth game but failed to convert. Their opponents, meanwhile, capitalized on their second match point to secure the victory. For reaching the second round, Ostapenko earned 130 WTA doubles ranking points.

In the round of 16, Dețiuc and Khromacheva will face the tenth-seeded pair of Guo Hanyu (China) and Kristina Mladenovic (France). Ostapenko and Kenin advanced to the second round by defeating the international duo of Nikola Bartůňková (Czech Republic) and Alexandra Eala (Philippines) with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Earlier, Ostapenko, ranked 31st in the WTA singles rankings, lost in the third round of the singles draw to world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, played on grass courts.
