Ostapenko aims to reach Wimbledon third round
Latvia's top tennis player Alona Ostapenko will face Croatia's Antonia Ruzic in the second round of Wimbledon today.

Alona Ostapenko, currently ranked 31st in the WTA, will play against Croatia's third-best tennis player Antonia Ruzic (ranked 61st) in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships. Ruzic recently reached as high as 51st in the rankings. In the 2026 season, Ostapenko has a 20-14 win-loss record, while Ruzic is 18-19, including lower-level tournaments. At the Grand Slam level, Ostapenko won the French Open in 2017 and reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2018. Ruzic played in the second round of the French Open this year. The 29-year-old Ostapenko has won nine WTA titles in her career, including the Stuttgart WTA 500 clay final in April last year. The 23-year-old Ruzic has yet to win a significant title. Ostapenko is competing at Wimbledon for the 11th time, while Ruzic is in her third consecutive year and first time in the main draw. In the first round, Ostapenko defeated British player Harriet Dart (152nd) 6:3, 3:6, 6:4, while Ruzic beat Latvia's second-ranked player Darja Semenistaja (104th) 6:3, 3:6, 6:3. Career records on grass: Ostapenko 58-27, Ruzic 10-8 (the Croatian has better results on other surfaces). On grass, Ruzic has only once beaten a top-100 player (ranked 59th). The temperature during the match is expected to be around 23 degrees Celsius.
