The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has released its updated world rankings, with Latvia's top player Alona Ostapenko holding onto the 29th position with 1,592 points. Meanwhile, the country's second-best player, Darja Semenistaja, has slipped from 106th to 112th place. Semenistaja suffered a first-round loss at the WTA 125 tournament in Romania this week, and her gap to the top 100 has widened from 61 to 72 points.

Last week also saw the conclusion of the WTA 500 event in Washington, where Filipino player Alexandra Eala took the title. Latvian tennis player Elza Tomase celebrated a W15 championship on Sunday, but her points will only be added to the rankings next week. Tomase currently sits at 740th, down from 730th.

At the top of the WTA singles rankings, there are no changes: Aryna Sabalenka leads with 8,550 points, followed by Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, Jessica Pegula of the United States, and Coco Gauff. Other Latvian players in the rankings include Anastasija Sevastova at 307th and Beatrise Zeltiņa at 431st.

This week, Ostapenko is set to compete at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, where she will face Zhang Shuai of China, ranked 62nd, in the second round.
