Ostapenko starts doubles at Eastbourne WTA 250 with a win

Aļona Ostapenko and her American partner Catherine McNally won their first-round doubles match in Eastbourne, earning 54 ranking points.

Latvian tennis player Aļona Ostapenko, partnering with American Catherine McNally, has successfully begun her doubles campaign at the WTA 250 tournament in Eastbourne. The third-seeded duo defeated the international pair of Nadia Kichenok (Ukraine) and Makoto Ninomiya (Japan) 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday.

For this victory, Ostapenko earned 54 WTA ranking points. In the second round, Ostapenko and McNally will face Czech pair Jesika Malečkova and Miriam Škohová, or the international duo of Ingrid Martins (Brazil) and Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain).

Earlier, Ostapenko also advanced in singles. Ranked 35th in the world and seeded third in the tournament, she defeated British player Francesca Jones (WTA 103) 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, earning 30 ranking points. In the second round, Ostapenko will meet Hungary's Panna Udvardy (WTA 71), who led her compatriot Anna Bondar (WTA 75) 7-6(4), 3-2 when Bondar retired due to injury.
