Ostapenko Wins Wimbledon Doubles Opener, Awaits Clash with World No. 1

Latvia's Alona Ostapenko and partner Sofia Kenin advanced to the second round of Wimbledon doubles, while in singles she prepares to face top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka.

Alona Ostapenko of Latvia and her American partner Sofia Kenin, seeded eighth in the tournament, secured a victory in the first round of women's doubles at Wimbledon. The duo defeated the international pair of Nikola Bartunkova (Czech Republic) and Alexandra Eala (Philippines) with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

This win earns Ostapenko 130 WTA doubles ranking points. In the second round, they will face either the American-Russian pair of McCartney Kessler and Diana Shnaider or the Czech-Russian duo of Anastasia Detiuk and Irina Khromacheva.

As previously reported, Ostapenko, currently ranked 31st in the WTA singles rankings, has reached the third round in singles. In the first round, Latvia's top player defeated Britain's Harriet Dart (WTA 151) 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, and in the second round she beat Croatia's Antonia Ruzic (WTA 61) with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 scoreline.

In the third round, Ostapenko will face the world No. 1, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. The Wimbledon Championships are the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, played on grass courts.
