Latvia's leading tennis player Jelena Ostapenko had an unsuccessful start at the WTA 1000 category tournament in Cincinnati, United States. In her second-round singles match, she lost to world number 41 Magdalena Fręch of Poland.
The match lasted one hour and 23 minutes, ending 1:6, 3:6 in favor of the Polish player.
Despite the singles defeat, Ostapenko continues her run in the tournament's doubles competition.
The Cincinnati tournament is part of Ostapenko's preparation schedule ahead of the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season, which begins in New York later this month.
