Senators Acquire Forward William Eklund in Trade with Sharks
The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the ninth overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft. Eklund recorded 53 points in 78 games last season.

The Ottawa Senators have made another significant trade, acquiring forward William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks. In exchange, the Senators sent the ninth overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft, which they had previously obtained from the Florida Panthers as part of the Brady Tkachuk trade.
As a result of this deal, the Sharks now hold the second, ninth, and 27th overall selections in this year's draft. The Senators will still make the 25th overall pick, having acquired three first-round picks in the Tkachuk trade and used only one in this transaction.
William Eklund, 23, was selected seventh overall in the 2021 NHL draft. Last season, he scored 15 goals and 53 points in 78 games with the Sharks. He has three years remaining on his contract with an average annual value of $5.6 million.
The trade is expected to clear a roster spot in San Jose for Ivan Stenberg, who is projected to be the second overall pick and join Macklin Celebrini's squad. Stenberg, 18, played in the Swedish Hockey League last season, recording 11 goals and 33 points in 43 games.
