Weather Warning Raised to Orange for Heavy Rain: Widespread Flooding Expected
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has upgraded the weather warning from yellow to orange for heavy rain overnight into Thursday, forecasting widespread flooding and possible infrastructure damage.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has raised the weather warning level from yellow to orange ahead of heavy rainfall expected overnight into Thursday. The orange alert will be in effect from 8 PM Wednesday until 8 AM Thursday.
According to forecasts, an active cyclone is crossing the Baltic states. It will bring prolonged and heavy rain to western regions during Wednesday daytime, and to central areas overnight into Thursday. Locally, very heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible.
The centre warns that due to the large amount of precipitation, the soil will become saturated and unable to absorb water. Stormwater drainage systems will be overloaded and may overflow. River floodplains and low-lying areas are expected to flood, potentially causing property and infrastructure damage in some locations. Roads may be washed out and infrastructure damaged. In flooded areas, evacuations may be necessary.
