Pakistan debutant Razaullah smashed a dramatic 81 on day three of the third Test at Edgbaston, helping set England a target of 130 to win. England remain favourites, but face a tricky chase after Pakistan's late resistance.
The third Test between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston took an unexpected turn on day three, as debutant Razaullah's aggressive batting reshaped the match. Pakistan, who had been struggling at 318-8 in their second innings, reached 449 all out thanks largely to his innings, leaving England needing 130 runs for victory.
The 21-year-old Razaullah, batting at number nine, scored 81 runs off just 63 balls, including nine sixes, equalling Ben Stokes' record for the most sixes in a Test innings in England. He put on 121 for the eighth wicket alongside Muhammad Abbas, who contributed 42 runs including two sixes of his own. Razaullah's innings ended when he was stumped off a Dan Lawrence delivery.
Before Razaullah's late assault, Pakistan's top order had batted with patience and composure. Shan Masood and Azan Awais built a 125-run stand for the third wicket before Awais was dismissed for 59. Masood then added 89 more runs with captain Babar Azam but fell agonisingly short of a century, out for 95 to a spectacular catch by Lawrence. Babar Azam made 76 before losing his wicket after England switched to a short-ball strategy.
Having been bowled out for just 133 on the first day and losing early wickets in their second innings, Pakistan showed resilience and remain in contention, though England are still considered favourites to win. England's bowling lost discipline during the closing stages of the day, and captain Joe Root faced questions over tactical decisions, including overlooking Ollie Robinson for the second new ball.
England will resume their chase on Saturday, needing 130 runs to complete what would be a series sweep.
