Pangram raises $9M for AI detection, partners with Substack on AI-written newsletter labels
AI-generated content is complicating trust online. Startup Pangram raised $9 million to expand AI detection and teamed up with Substack to show readers which authors use AI in their newsletters.
AI-generated text and images have become common across job applications, product reviews and insurance claims, making it harder for platforms and users to tell what is real. Several startups have emerged in recent years to act as a “trust layer” for the internet, and one of them is Pangram.
Pangram, which builds AI detection systems, recently announced $9 million in funding. It also landed a partnership with Substack. Through the deal, Substack uses Pangram’s technology to display to readers whether their favorite authors rely on AI to create newsletters. In addition, Pangram has launched a new tool aimed at detecting AI-generated images.
Pangram co-founder and CEO Max Spero recently appeared on TechCrunch’s Equity podcast. During the conversation, he discussed the potential of AI detection tools and the challenge of distinguishing between content that is AI-assisted and content that is fully AI-generated.
