“Papīra lidmašīnas” Revives Dzintars Čīča’s Hit “Tu esi vasarā”
Latvian band “Papīra lidmašīnas” has released a new version of Dzintars Čīča’s well-known song “Tu esi vasarā,” originally published in 2003. The new rendition has been in the works since 2024, and the group plans its first concert in the autumn of 2026.
Dzintars Čīča’s “Tu esi vasarā” is one of the most recognizable children’s and youth pop songs in Latvia. It was released in 2003 on the album “Nāc un dziedi” and became the artist’s signature tune. Now, the band “Papīra lidmašīnas” has given the track a fresh sound.
The musicians acknowledge that reworking the original was a significant challenge. Juris Ludženieks, a band member, notes that they started thinking about and working on the new version in 2024 but struggled to find an arrangement that would preserve the song’s positive, summery vibe while fitting the group’s style.
In the autumn of 2026, “Papīra lidmašīnas” plans to hold their first concert, featuring both their original songs and new interpretations of works by other artists, including the revamped “Tu esi vasarā.”
