The Latgale district court has issued a ruling in a case involving the illegal transportation of people across the Latvia–Belarus border, the prosecutor's office reported.

According to the court's decision, the convicted individual acted as part of an organized group that illegally moved 21 people across the state border. For this criminal offense, the court sentenced the person to six years in prison.

Additional penalties

Beyond the prison term, the court ruled that the person must be deported from Latvia after serving the sentence. The court also imposed a five-year entry ban, meaning the individual will be barred from returning to the country for that period following deportation.

Prosecutors confirmed these details of the case but did not provide further information about the convicted person's identity, the circumstances of the border crossings, or any other individuals involved in the case.
