Mark van Bommel Appointed Head Coach of Belgium National Team

Belgium has hired Mark van Bommel as their new head coach on a two-year contract until 2028, replacing Rudi Garcia after the World Cup.

The Belgian national team has a new head coach: Dutchman Mark van Bommel. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a two-year contract has been signed until 2028, with official confirmation pending.

Van Bommel replaces Rudi Garcia, who left the position after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Garcia had been in charge since 2025. In the World Cup, Belgium finished first in their group, then defeated Senegal 3–2 after extra time and the USA 4–1 before losing 1–2 to eventual champions Spain in the round of 16.

This is van Bommel's first role in international football. He previously coached at club level in Belgium (Royal Antwerp), Germany (Wolfsburg), and the Netherlands (PSV).
