Refunds Not Required for Events Canceled Due to Airspace Threats Under New Law

The Latvian parliament has approved amendments regulating the handling of public events when an early warning about airspace danger is issued. If the warning indicates a direct and significant threat to human life or health, the organizer is prohibited from starting the event and must immediately stop it if it is already underway.

If an event is interrupted due to such circumstances and cannot be resumed objectively, it is considered canceled. In this case, the service provider (organizer) is not obliged to refund the ticket or other participation fee to the attendee. The provision applies to all paid public events that take place after the law comes into force, regardless of when the ticket was purchased or the participation fee was paid.

The new regulation will take effect on the day following its promulgation in the official publication "Latvijas Vēstnesis".
