Queensland police have charged a 48-year-old man with murder after remains believed to be a missing woman were found in bushland. As of Sunday morning, the remains had not yet been formally identified, but investigators believe they belong to Jana Armstrong.

Armstrong was reported missing from a suburb in Toowoomba, south of Brisbane, after she was last seen on Tuesday. Officers released footage of Armstrong wearing a green-and-white striped Country Road shirt, jeans and thongs, with her white Hyundai car located about 500m from her home.

A crime scene was declared at 11.20pm on Saturday after the remains were located in bushland off Esk Hampton road. Investigators remained in contact with Armstrong's family as forensic examinations continued.

Detectives later arrested the 48-year-old man at his Toowoomba home and charged him with one count of murder, described as a domestic violence offence. He was due to appear in court on Monday.

Police appealed for any relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage from locations between Toowoomba and Esk between 10.30pm on 7 July and 1.30am on 8 July. Police were scheduled to address the media later on Sunday.
