Rescheduled Round 24 clash sends Riga to face Super Nova
In a postponed Round 24 Latvian top-flight match, champions Riga will travel to face Super Nova. Riga have gone four games without a win, while their opponents have just claimed six points from two straight matches.
A rescheduled Round 24 fixture in Latvia's Virsliga will see Super Nova host reigning champions Riga, with the match broadcast live on TV4. The game was delayed because Riga were competing in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on July 26-27, while the other eight clubs in the league completed their Round 24 fixtures on schedule.
Riga arrive without a win in their last four league outings. That run began with a 3:3 draw in a derby against league leaders RFS, followed by a 2:3 defeat away to Liepaja, and continued with home draws against Daugavpils (1:1) and Auda (2:2). As a result, Riga now trail RFS by six points after 29 rounds. RFS, meanwhile, extended their lead over the weekend with a dramatic 2:1 away win in Daugavpils, scoring twice in stoppage time.
Super Nova currently sit sixth in the standings but have played fewer matches than several nearby rivals, holding games in hand against both Riga (Round 24) and RFS (Round 25). The club has been in strong form recently, picking up maximum points from its last two outings — a 1:0 win away in Jelgava and a 1:0 home victory over Tukums 2000. Agris Glaudans and Kristaps Romanovs scored the goals, with Romanovs netting his first-ever Virsliga goal.
The two sides have already met twice this season, with Riga winning both encounters — 4:1 away in April and 3:0 at home in late May. Muhammeds Badamosi scored a hat-trick in the second meeting; he is currently the league's second-highest scorer this season with 19 goals.
