Possible bear sighting in Pārdaugava: female bear with cubs reported

Riga municipality has received a report of a possible female bear with cubs sighted in the Imanta area on Saturday, July 25. While the report is still unconfirmed, the municipality advises residents to exercise caution, as wild animals in urban environments can pose risks.

Deputy Mayor Edvards Ratnieks emphasized the importance of staying calm, not approaching the animal, and immediately notifying authorities. A mother bear protecting her cubs can become aggressive, so people should not attempt to photograph or lure it.

The municipality issued several safety tips: do not feed the animal, slowly back away without running, keep children and dogs at a distance. If in a car, stay inside and let the bear leave. Also avoid spreading unverified information on social media and do not gather at the location.

Residents who spot a bear or other large wild animal are asked to call 112. If the animal poses an immediate threat, call the emergency number without delay.
